The Erie County Fraternal Order of Police Memorial to our fallen Brothers and Sisters is located in front of the Erie County Court House, 140 West Sixth Street. The memorial, which was several years in the planning, is made from Pennsylvania black granite, and was dedicated on May 15, 1989.
In early 2000, prior to being voted from office, County Executive Judith Lynch had our memorial moved to the courtyard between the east and west wing of the Erie County Court House, totally invisible to the public and was considered by the lodge and by the surviving members of the deceased officer's families, as a slap in the face to those who have given their lives for the citizens of Erie County,. Plans are currently underway to move the memorial to Perry Square. This move should be accomplished in 2004, at which time our memorial will join with a memorial which will be erected by Erie Lodge #7.
On Wednesday, May 11th 2004 our memorial, along with the memorial of Erie Lodge #7, was rededicated . The memorial is now located in Perry Square, directly north of Erie City Hall and directly east of the Erie County Court House.
May God grant our prayers that no other names ever be added to this memorial.
